The Molalla High School Robotics Teams brought home two trophies Saturday from the first VEX Robotics Competition of the year, in which 32 teams competed at West Salem High School.

Molalla’s Team 97038C (OFUDOR) was a strong player on the winning alliance and took home the tournament champion award. Coaching the teams is Zeb Schweickert.

Both teams qualify for the Platinum Division at state and OFUDOR qualifies for the national championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa as well.

“It was an exciting event, and both teams performed extremely well,” said Jeff Hammock, a team Dad.

The MHS Robotics Club is comprised of students who are building robots and competing at the VEX Robotics Competitions.

This is the ultimate Science Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activing for high school students. It encourages teamwork, leadership and problem solving among the groups while they create, build and program amazing robots and compete in engineering challenges presented in the form of games.

Competitions are held statewide during the school year. The MHS teams will next go up against teams from throughout the state on January 7, at North Marion High School. The teams will also compete February 4 at Dallas High School, and the Oregon State Championship on March 10 and 11 at Chemeketa Community College, in Salem.

The Molalla Robotics Booster Club helps support the club along with several Molalla businesses, including Charlies Team Sports, Hoffman House Antique Mall, NW Transplants.
