Molalla Cub Scouts first Blue and Gold
Every February, Cub Scout Packs hold Blue and Gold banquets. The event is held annually to celebrate the founding of the Boy Scouting program.
But for Molalla's new Pack 257, the Blue and Gold event held Feb. 25 was the Cub Scout pack's first banquet.
As part of the celebration, the young scouts and their leaders invited the Liberal Bible study group to the event as a way of thanking the members for sponsoring the scouts' meeting location at the Evangelical Community Chapel. Between the church members and the Cub Scouts' family members, nearly 100 people were on hand for the event.
The boys made placemats for their guests, greeted them at the door, introduced themselves, helped guests to be seated, served them coffee or punch and a spaghetti dinner.
Awards were given to supporters of the pack and scout families.
The scouts received their earned segments and for the newest scout, Quinton Mclain, special recognition for earning his Bobcat in one week's time.
The evening included a talk by scout executive Jon Malloy, skits by the boys and a dessert auction to help with funding camperships for boys to attend summer camp.
Pack 257 is sponsored by Molalla Kiwanis. Charlie and Susan Williams started the growing Pack last year, which now boasts 11 Cub Scouts as members.
