Chamber lights up Molalla
The Molalla Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Molalla's annual tree lighting, which will take place at City Hall on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.
The tree went up Thanksgiving weekend, thanks to volunteers. Volunteers also decorated the downtown trees and lamp posts on Molalla Avenue as well as the storefronts of vacant buildings.
"It's a huge community effort that goes into this," said Chamber President Connie Farrens.
But it will all come to life on Dec. 2 at the event.
"Those lights don't go on until the ceremony," Farrens said.
The tree will light up at the beginning of the ceremony, so those who want to see it should arrive on time. There will be free hot cocoa and hot cider as well as entertainment from school groups. Festivities will wrap up at about 6:15 p.m. when Santa rides in on the old fire truck, after collecting canned goods during the Santa parade through town.
"We'd love to have people come," Farrens said. "It's usually a lot of fun. It's entertaining and gets you in that Christmas spirit, and the children get a chance to see Santa."
