Colton Corner: Boosters host Paint Night
Last Saturday, Colton Boosters hosted a paint night, led by local artist, Cathy Schmidt.
Colton folks know Schmidt as a mother, grandmother, community supporter and volunteer. What many don't know is she an accomplished tole and decorative artist, who travels the country teaching classes, and is a published author of three books: the "School House Treasures" series (available on Amazon). Schmidt's work is often featured in The "Decorative Painter," the official publication of the society of decorative painters. Her painting style is based in folk art but also showcases impressionistic and realistic aspects.
The acrylic-on-canvas instruction of a "Summer Daisy" provided a fun and creative evening and everyone who attended went home with a beautiful piece of art they can say they painted. Many of those in attendance asked, as did those who saw the finished projects on social media, when the next class will be.
Schmidt said she would be interested in doing another paint night. Boosters said they will post it on their Facebook page as soon as they have the date. The concession stand was open during the night and offered a filling menu so you could dine while watching your paint dry. All proceeds from the event benefited the Colton Boosters Club.
