In April of 2016, the Colton School District board made a decision (after much debate and with input from those who attended the meetings) to implement a Concealed Weapons Committee, that included staff members from all three district schools, community members, parents and member of law enforcement. The committee examined policies of other districts, talked to educators and staff as well as parents and community. In the end, the committee felt what was best for Colton students, staff and community was a recommendation for the district to not implement a concealed weapons policy. The board approved the recommendation. Therefore, the Oregon concealed carry permit law stands for school staff and employees. They can choose to carry a concealed weapon on Colton School District grounds.
