Toilets travel around Molalla for good cause
Molalla residents may notice an (entirely normal) influx of colorful toilets plopping down in yards around town starting next week and continuing through the month of April.
But before you call the potty police, know that it's all for a good cause.
Some parents of Molalla High School seniors are behind the potty dumps in an effort to raise funds for a senior drug- and alcohol-free graduation party. They're calling the fundraiser "The Traveling Toilet."
"We know this is an important night to the seniors," said senior parent Desiree Barrett, "so this grad party committee is working really hard to make sure this party is affordable enough for every student to attend."
Here's how the fundraiser works. Businesses or individuals can send one of five brightly decorated toilets to a local friend or neighbor. The toilet theme choices include Beavers, Ducks, garden, beach or Molalla school spirit. Then the lucky recipient can have the toilet flushed away from their lawn…for a fee.
Traveling Toilet charges are as follows:
Sending a toilet to a friend - $10
Toilet removal - $10
Toilet removal and passing it on to a friend - $20
Toilet removal and never having it return - $30
"Growing up in a tight knit community like Molalla, we have been by each other's side since we were in kindergarten, and this party is our last chance to have fun together as a class," said Taelyr Musella, senior class president.
The party committee has held several fundraisers throughout the year, and will follow The Traveling Toilet with a few more including selling Dipz party dip mix and holding a Rustic Shed art event. For more information, visit the Facebook page: Molalla Graduating Class of 2018.
