The Cardinals faced tough competition there. Though they didn't secure a win, they got to test themselves against upper level teams.

They were then pitted against the Carolina Elite, who beat them 0-10. "They were a really tough team," assistant coach Mindi Shelton said.

In the double elimination bracket, they first faced the California Kryptonite, who won 1-7. Then they moved on to what turned out to be their final game, against the Georgia Fire, who won 2-5.

"They got a hit here and there but couldn't put it together to win," Shelton said.

In total, 138 teams played, from all over the nation. Many of them were high-end franchise teams, Shelton said. "It was really great exposure for them."

This is the second year Patterson and Shelton played for the Cardinals, which is mostly made up of 5A and 6A players from the Portland metro area.
