Following a tear-filled honoring of the seniors, the Vikings took the court against the Sheridan Spartans in what turned into their closest game of the CORY MIMMS - Mikaela Shelton takes the spike.

The energy in the gymnasium was high, as it not only was senior night but it was also the last match Colton would play. Plenty of fans turned out to cheer on the lady Vikings.

Colton opened the first set with an early 4-0 lead, which they were able to push to 10-4 before the first timeout. The seniors especially couldn’t have asked for a better set, Mikaela Shelton, Joslyn Stansfield and Paige Lindstrom came out firing, smashing down spikes into Spartan territory.

Anjuli Knight, Mckenna Gilstrap and Monica Poet impressed on defense, with their hands high at the net, stuffing Sheridan’s attacks back. They closed the set 25-10.

But the Spartans weren’t going to give the Vikings the easy win. Sheridan turned the game around in the second set, nabbing a 5-1 lead. The Vikings regrouped in a timeout and came back with three quick points. With the score at 5-4, Sheridan pushed ahead and took the second set 25-14.

The Spartans didn’t let the pressure off either. Both Colton and Sheridan raced for points in the third set. The Vikings took it 25-22. And again, in the fourth set, Sheridan was unrelenting, winning 25-19, pressing the game into the fifth-set tiebreaker.

It was as close as it could get, ending 18-16, and the Vikings took the 3-2 victory.

Colton closed their season 6-8 and fifth in league.
