Molalla's track and field team once again walked away from the Tri-Valley district meet with more than a dozen gold medals as the Indians qualified 15 athletes in 18 events for the state meet to be held at Hayward Field May 19-20.
Molalla's girls' team took first place at the meet with 140 points, beating out Gladstone by six points, while the boys' team took second with 130 points, behind Crook County with 215.
The Indians grabbed 15 gold medals over the weekend, just one less than last season.
The girls' team took gold medals in nine events from five athletes at the meet held in Prineville at Crook County High School.
Country Christian junior Anna Farner grabbed four first-place finishes and set three new personal records: the 100 meter dash, where she recorded a PR time of 12.86 seconds and beating out Crook County's Kaeli Hancock by .20 seconds; in the 200 meter dash, where she recorded another PR time of 26.98 seconds, beating Corbett's Jenna Kerslake by .37 seconds; in the High Jump where she set her third PR as she cleared five feet, one inch; and she helped the 4x100 relay team take first place with a time of 50.62 seconds along with Hannah Henderson, Emma Andrew, and Desirae DesRosiers.
DesRosiers also took four gold medals home as she cruised to victory in the 100 meter high hurdles with a PR time of 15.95 seconds, nearly a full second faster than Andrews in second; she took first in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles by nearly 4.5 seconds as she recorded a time of 47.53 seconds while Crook County's Mckinzee Mode took second with a 51.97; she took gold in the Long Jump as she hit a mark of 16 feet, 3.5 inches, 4.5 inches further than Gladstone's Grace Campbell; and DesRosiers helped the 4x100 relay team to a gold finish as well.
Senior Rachel Bring easily took two golds in her throwing events as she tossed a mark of 40 feet, three inches in the Shot Put and 140 feet, nine inches in the Discus; County Christian sophomore Katie Sandberg was fairly close behind Bring in the Shot Put as she hit a season record 36 feet, eight inches to grab a qualifying spot.
The boys' team took six gold medals from seven athletes in their second place performance as a team.
Senior Matthew Borowczak took first in the 1,500 meters as he clocked a time of four minutes, 23.63 seconds, nearly six full seconds ahead of Crook County's Tyler Lawson, who set a PR of 4:29.23. Borowczak also took golf in the 3,000 meters as he clocked a new PR of nine minutes, 45.78 seconds.
Senior Mont Child had no problem taking gold in his two throwing events, tossing 53 feet, 9.5 inches in the Shot Put, nearly seven feet further than Gladstone's Briggs Tatom. He hit a mark of 147 feet, eight inches in the Discus for first place while senior Berkely Olsen was fairly close behind with a PR toss of 134 feet, three inches to take second and qualify for state.
Junior Marcus Simpson also grabbed a gold medal in the High Jump as he cleared six feet even, tying his PR from the April 20 meet at Madras.
Finally, the boys' 4x100 team qualified for state as they narrowly beat out Crook County's team by .05 seconds for first place. The team consists of Michael House, Treyton Bierly, Tanner Nauta, and Gavin Thrower.
The qualifying athletes will head down to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon this Friday through Saturday for a shot at placing among the top athletes in the state.
