Girls' soccer: Molalla shuts out Corbett, Madras
The Molalla girls' soccer team has moved to 5-1 in the Tri-Valley Conference after another pair of shutout wins last week, giving the Indians a four-game winning streak as they head into tonight's matchup against Gladstone for what will likely be for the league title.
"We have been practicing harder and learning to play better as a team," Molalla senior Sierra Cox said. "We have some of our key players back that we were missing, which made quite a difference in our positions."
Molalla thumped Corbett 7-0 last Tuesday and then headed to Madras last Thursday, where they took home a 2-0 win and their fourth in a row.
Molalla led 1-0 at the half, and then Cox put the game away with just five minutes remaining when an initial cross through the air landed in the center of the box as Cox punched in a goal through a crowd of Molalla players.
The Indians are one game back from Gladstone, and a win tonight would likely solidify a league title for Molalla, barring a catastrophe against the three teams they've already blown out earlier this season during their final three league games. Gladstone tied Madras 0-0 on Sept. 21, which gives Molalla a leg up when the final records are taken into account.
"We're just going to continue to play our game becuse that is what works best for us," Cox said. "I have confidence in every single player out there on the field; as long as we play together as a team and have fun, we will do just fine."
Molalla takes on Gladstone at 6 p.m. tonight at Wood Field in Molalla.
