Molalla boys golf team claims third Seaside Invitational
Warrenton—At the Astoria Golf and Country Club, Molalla boys golf team took the third place spot behind Seaside and Astoria in the Seaside Invitational. It was a solid showing for the team, who recorded a 370 scorecard at the match.
Ben Daniels had the strongest showing of the team. Daniels made par on eight holes, and got his first eagle of the year on the 471-yard par 5 twelfth hole. Daniels finished fourth overall with a score of 80.
"Ben's success is a direct offshoot of the time he spent practicing and playing in Oregon Golf Association (OGA) tournament events when he was younger," Molalla boys golf coach Patrick Tindall said. "He is a leader by example, and by playing ability. He is respected by all."
Behind Daniels were freshman Michael Kemp with a score of 89, and freshman Austin Soderberg with a score of 96. Soderberg birdied the third hole in a strong front nine showing.
Also participating for Molalla's team were Isaac Vansmoorenburg with a total of 110, and Brice Sperl with a score of 105.
"We will be competitive for the remainder of the year, but if we want to reach the next level all of our players will have to make the decision to take the steps necessary to make the leap," Tindall said. "All of our players (men and women) will need to take lessons in the summer, using that time to hone their golf swing. All need to make a commitment to their golf game, choosing to work on it year round, instead of trying to learn and improve during the season itself."
The team will participate in the Cowboy Invite at Meadow Lakes golf course in Prineville on Monday, April 30.
