July warmer, drier than usual

Temperatures recorded in Madras averaged slightly warmer than normal during the month of July, according to preliminary data received from the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 67.7 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 90.1 degrees, which was 4.8 degrees above normal.

The highest temperature was 101 degrees on July 3. Low temperatures averaged 45.3 degrees, which was 1.3 degrees below normal. The lowest was 37 degrees, on the 21st.

On 15 days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees, and on one day, it was at least 100 degrees.

There was no precipitation measured during July, which was 0.54 inches below normal.

The highest wind gust was 26 mph, which occurred on July 4.

The outlook for August from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation.

Normal highs for Madras during August are 84.7 degrees and normal lows are 45.4 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.34 inches.
