by: SUSAN MATHENY - Firefighters spray flaming junipers and sagebrush on Meadowlark Lane.An escaped burn barrel fire at 438 N.E. Meadowlark Lane set off a fire around 1:30 p.m., Aug. 21, that swept through a sagebrush and juniper tree area toward other homes in the rural residential neighborhood.

According to Fire Chief Brian Huff, 20 firefighters responded and worked in heavy smoke to dowse trees flaming up like torches as the fire spread to the south and east on Meadowlark Lane. They were able to get the fire under control before it reached any other homes.

“There was some fence damage from where we had to cut it to get access for fire trucks,” Huff said.

Fire personnel were mopping up at the scene until dark.
