Foley Butte sale proceeding

New owner not yet identified

Details are not yet available, but Ochoco Lumber Co., has accepted a bid for the sale of the Foley Butte property, a portion of which is located in Jefferson County.

"We have a buyer," said Bruce Daucsavage, president of Ochoco Lumber, noting that they had numerous bids for the 32,475 acres offered at auction on July 25 by Realty Marketing/Northwest.

Although they have agreed not to disclose the identity of the buyer, Daucsavage said, "They've committed to purchasing the property."

While most of the property is located in Crook County, about 7,500 acres is in Jefferson County. The property has "a lot of water and standing timber, great grazing, plus harvesting timber and recreation," he said.

Ochoco Lumber will maintain its corporate office in Prineville, but will expand its operations in John Day, where it has a biomass plant, sawmill, chipping facility, whole log shaving facility, and shavings bagging operation on about 75 acres.

Regarding the sale, Daucsavage commented, "We're happy. We're pleased that we know that the buyer will manage the land in such a way that we would be proud of it."
