Parade leads Veterans Day events


A Veterans Day Parade will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, at Sahalee Park in Madras to celebrate and honor local military heroes.

Sponsored by American Legion Post 125, the parade is seeking more entries for the parade. Everyone is welcome to enter.

The theme will be “Honoring Our Vets” and entries will line up at 12:30 p.m., at Madras High School.

Following a Civil Air Patrol flyover at 1:45 p.m., the parade will start, traveling down 10th Street to B Street, then to the park at Seventh Street.

Other events

• Jefferson County Middle School is planning at Veterans Day assembly and student parade on Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 2:30-3:30 p.m., at the school. Local veterans are invited to come and be honored, and the community is invited to attend.

• The Jefferson County Veterans Service Office, at 860 S.W. Madison St., Madras, will hold an open house at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, with coffee and a presentation titled “All You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask.” The talk will be followed by lunch at noon. Vets are asked to RSVP to 541-475-5228 by Nov. 4, and the first 100 to sign up will receive lunch for free.

• The Madras Elks Lodge will honor veterans with a dinner at 5:30 p.m., on Veterans Day.

• Black Bear Diner in Madras will serve veterans a free breakfast, lunch or dinner on Veterans Day.
