Walden visits Kiwanis group
Part of six-day tour of Central, Eastern and Southern Oregon
U.S. Rep. Greg Walden was in Madras Tuesday to speak before the Madras Kiwanis Club and its invited guests at the Harriman Building.
The visit was the third in two days and part of a six-day swing through Central, Eastern and Southern Oregon, with stops in 10 of the 12 counties in the expansive Second District.
Walden focused much of his talk on the problems surrounding the Affordable Health Care Act, which he opposes.
Besides taking questions from a packed room of about 70 people, he also talked about timber management legislation and his Bowman Dam bill which was the focus of a press conference in Prineville later in the day.
Walden spoke about the unanimous House passage of the Central Oregon Jobs and Water Security Act, which delivers needed water to Prineville for job creation and paves the way for clean energy at Bowman Dam.
The legislation had widespread community support. Speakers at the press conference included elected community leaders, farmers, and representatives of water conservation organizations, tribes, and various industries.
