The Madras Community Development Department is currently accepting applications for a vacancy on the Madras Planning Commission.

The commission reviews and makes recommendations to the Madras City Council and other authorities on public thoroughfares, traffic issues, housing and sanitation conditions, future growth, development, and beautification of the city in respect to its public and private buildings, streets, parks, grounds, and vacant lots, plans for promotion, development, and regulation of industrial and economic needs of the community.

The Planning Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council for the adoption of or amendment to the city's comprehensive plan, and the city's land use ordinances (e.g. sign ordinance, subdivision ordinance, and zoning ordinance).

Seven voting members make up the Planning Commission, which generally meets on the first, and at times, on the third Wednesday of each month.

One interested individual will be appointed to serve a three-year term. The person can be appointed from the city's urban growth boundary or within the city of Madras.

Letters of interest should be submitted or hand delivered to Community Development Director Nick Snead, at the City Hall at 125 S.W. E St., Madras, by Feb. 17. Call 541-323-2916 for questions or additional information about the Planning Commission.
