Water area plan meeting set for Feb. 19

At Jefferson County Fire Department

A meeting on the Middle Deschutes Agricultural Water Quality Management Area Plan will be held in Madras on Feb. 19.

The plan provides guidance for addressing agricultural water quality issues in the Middle Deschutes Agricultural Water Quality Management Area.

The purpose of the plan is to identify strategies to reduce water pollution from agricultural lands through a combination of educational programs, suggested land treatments, management activities, and monitoring. The provisions of the area plan do not establish legal requirements or prohibitions.

The plan applies to agricultural activities on all nonfederal and nonTribal Trust agricultural, rural, and forestry lands within the Middle Deschutes Agricultural Water Quality Management Area.

The plan also applies to agricultural lands in current use, those lying idle, or on which management has been deferred, and lands (like private roads) not strictly in agricultural use but that support agricultural activities.

Those who want to understand the plan, identify areas of concern, and assist in making the plan current and valid are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jefferson County Fire Department in Madras, to go over modifications the plan. Lunch will be provided, so those planning to attend are encouraged to contact Debbe Chadwick at 541-923-4358, ext. 101 to RSVP and to request a copy of the plan and suggested modifications.
