Voting registration deadline looms

Ballots go out May 2

Ballots for the May 20 primary election will be mailed out in just over three weeks.

The ballot will include five candidates for Positions 1 and 2 on the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners, as well as unopposed incumbents for the positions of sheriff and county clerk.

For Position 1 on the County Commission, Tom Brown, Mae Huston and Mike Throop have all filed for the position currently held by John Hatfield, who is retiring from the post.

Incumbent Mike Ahern will face a challenge from Floyd Paye for Position 2 on the County Commission.

Sheriff Jim Adkins and County Clerk Kathy Marston are both running unopposed for their positions.

To vote in the election, the deadline to register is Tuesday, April 29, and ballots will be mailed out Friday, May 2.

"If you've moved or changed your address, let us know," said Marston, adding that voters can register to vote online at oregonvotes.gov. Call the clerk's office at 541-475-4451 for more information.
