Steel Stampede takes in over $10,500

For Crooked River Ranch

The event, which included 60 participants in the trials event and 200 for race day, went off without a hitch with the help of 98 volunteers over the two-day event.

With “just the right amount of volunteers,” to assist in selling T-shirts, parking and working the entrance, Judy LaPora, administrator for the Ranch, said that the event went “very, very well.”

LaPora went on to say that the Ranch also did well "on sponsor contributions, not cash money," but it was sponsorships that helped reduce the overall cost of the event.

LaPora estimated the proceeds made from the event at about $10,500-10,900. “That's great for one event,” she said.

Proceeds from past Stampede events have paid for the information kiosk, the restrooms near the Lions Memorial Park and the disc golf course.

LaPora has already submitted a request to the CRR Club and Maintenance Association on where she would like to see the money earned from this year's event spent. “Portable bleachers,” she said.

With more spectators in attendance this year, the Ranch is always learning how to do it better for the next year. For everything from the Steel Stampede, to tennis matches, to the Ranch's Independence Day celebration, purchasing portable bleachers would allow the Ranch to “utilize them wherever we need them,” LaPora said.

Ultimately, the Club and Maintenance Association acts as the deciding body for where the money will be spent.

Ranch officials praised the efforts of all of the volunteers: the Boys and Girls Club, CRR Fire Department, Senior Center, CRR Car Club, CRR Chamber, Girl Scouts, the ATV club on the Ranch and the CRR Lions, who were also big contributors.

The Lion's Club will be holding their annual Casino Night on May 24 this year rather than in September. Be sure to mark your calendars.
