Lake Chinook bond approved

For new fire station

Lake Chinook Fire and Rescue District voters approved the fire station bond issue in the May 20 election by a vote of 55-50.

The election results are unofficial until the county finalizes the ballot process. The $660,000 bond issue will be used to construct a fire apparatus building, offices, meeting, and crew quarters building on property located next to the Three Rivers gate on Southwest Graham Road.

The LCF&R staff will begin the process of initiating the bond sale in the next month. District staff will begin preparing final site designs and requests for proposals. Much of the project will be subject to competitive bidding as required by Oregon state law.

The project plan anticipates that the fire station will be completed in late spring 2015.

“The new station project has been a long process over the last four years," said Fire Chief Don Colfels. "I am anxious to break ground and start the construction project. Hopefully the station will be complete by next fire season."

LCF&R is grateful for the Three Rivers Landowners donation of the land for the fire station and the LCF&R fire district voters for the approval of the bond issue to fund its construction, said Colfels.
