Fair rodeos pack in crowds

Wool Busters kids' rodeo a big hit

by: SUSAN MATHENY - Lizzy Friend, 6, interacts with her friend's Nigerian dwarf goat on Thursday at the 81st annual Jefferson County Fair. The Jefferson County Fair Rodeos were packed and overall attendance was comparable to past years, according to fair manager Sandy Forman.

“It went really well, very smooth. The rodeo attendance was up this year and we had to shut down admission because we were at capacity,” she said.

Exhibit entries were down a bit, but people enjoyed the other attractions, especially the 4-H and FFA animals, Wool Buster kids’ rodeo, and kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull.

“As soon as 5 p.m. hit, that’s when people started coming in,” Forman said of the hot days and cool nights during the fair.
