Marston, Jefferson County's clerk, planned an action-packed four-day event for the group, which included rafting, a dinner at Maragas Winery, and a banquet at Portland General Electric's Overlook Park.

About 100 people, including clerks and their support staff, stayed at the Inn at Cross Keys Station from Aug. 18-21, she said, noting that every county, except Marion was represented.

When the clerks and staff arrived Monday afternoon, about 55 participated in a raft trip on the Deschutes River. "They really enjoyed that," she said.

Days were reserved for business meetings, but Tuesday evening, the group went to the Maragas Winery for dinner and a tour, and Wednesday evening, the group held their banquet at Overlook Park.

"People said it's kind of a hidden gem in the county," said Marston. "I tried very hard to showcase Jefferson County and overall, people were very pleased."

New officers were elected at the banquet included: Tillamook County Clerk Tassi O’Neil as president; Polk County Clerk Val Unger as vice president; Josephine County Clerk Art Harvey as treasurer; and Deschutes County Clerk Nancy Blankenship as secretary. Marston now holds the office of past president.

"It was fun and I got a lot of positive comments about the conference," she said. "They didn’t realize Jefferson County had so much to offer and they’d like to come back some time."
