DPSST graduates local officer

Madras Police Department officer John Slyter will graduate from DPSST May 12.

The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training has announced the upcoming graduation of its 366th Basic Police Class, which included a Madras police officer.

Police officer John Slyter, of the Madras Police Department, is a graduating member of the 366th class.

The Basic Police Class is 16 weeks in length and includes dozens of training areas including survival skills, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, ethics, cultural diversity, problem solving, community policing, elder abuse, drug recognition, and dozens of other subjects.

Basic Police Class 366 will graduate at the Oregon Public Safety Academy at 4190 Aumsville Highway SE in Salem, on Friday, May 12, at 10 a.m., with a reception immediately following the graduation.
