Madras parade, fireworks set for July 4
With the theme "KIKK'n it up on the Fourth," Madras will have a parade and all-American celebration at Sahalee Park, sponsored by the Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.
The day kicks off with the Todd Beamer 10K run at 6 a.m., beginning and ending at the park. There is also a 5K run, six-mile walk, and a two-mile fun run.
Enjoy breakfast served up by the Madras Elks Lodge from 7-10 a.m., while watching the runner cross the finish line.
The colorful Fourth of July Parade begins at 10 a.m., winding from 10th Street to B Street, then down Seventh Street and around Sahalee Park. Entries should sign in at the check-in table on 10th Street by the tennis courts, between 8-9:45 a.m.
Festivities begin at the park after the parade with a flag raising by Madras High School JROTC cadets at 11 a.m., kids' games and music by the Bad Cats Band, from 11-2 p.m., and a wide variety of lunch offerings from local vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Continue the celebration at the MAC Splash, at 6 p.m., featuring swimming, a barbecue, music and great view of the fireworks at the Madras Aquatic Center. Admission is only $5, and tickets can be purchased at the MAC or chamber.
The day will be topped off with the spectacular Madras Sparklers fireworks display, which begins around 9 p.m., as soon as it gets dark.
