Driver who allegedly ran stop sign and crashed into another vehicle attempted to flee scene.

SUSAN MATHENY - Police reported that a Madras man attempted to flee the scene of a Jan. 22 accident, at the intersection of Fourth and C streets. He was apprehended.A two-vehicle accident on Monday sent three local people to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to Madras Police Chief Tanner Stanfill, the accident happened at 10:40 a.m., Jan. 22, at the intersection of C and Fourth streets, near U.S. Bank.

"The suspect, Joshua Axsom, 23, of Madras, was headed east on C Street, ran the stop sign and crashed into a 2015 Lincoln SUV occupied by David Irwin, 52, and Gina Irwin, 50, both of Madras," Stanfill said.

Axsom's 2005 Pontiac Sunfire also struck a parked 1999 Honda Civic, and in the collision, a street light pole was knocked over.

Axsom attempted to flee the scene following the accident, but was apprehended and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree assault, reckless driving, and failure to perform the duties of a driver at the scene of an accident.

The Irwins and Axsom were all subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Axsom was cited at the hospital in lieu of arrest, due to his injuries.
