Enjoy popcorn at the movies.Enjoy a French film, a classic, and an Academy Award nominee at the Jefferson County Library Film Center in May.

The films, shown at the Rodriguez Annex, 134 S.E. E St., Madras, are free and refreshments will be available.

May 3, 7:30 p.m., “Le Havre,” (PG) is a French film with subtitles. In the French harbor city of Le Havre, fate throws a young African refugee into the path of Marcel Marx, a well spoken bohemian who works as a shoe shiner.  With innate optimism and unwavering support of his community Marcel stands up to officials doggedly pursuing the boy for deportation.

May 10, 7:30 p.m., “The Apartment,” (PG) is a 1960 Classic. In this movie, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley McLain, a mild-mannered insurance clerk at a big corporation realizes that the only way to a promotion is to loan out his apartment for his superiors to carry on their extramarital affairs.

May 17, 7:30 p.m., “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” (PG-13) was a 2012 Academy Award nominee for Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director. In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a 6-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood.

Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.
