The Jefferson County Library’s annual Summer Reading Program kicks off Tuesday, June 25, with our first program “Digging in the Garden” running from 2-3 p.m., at the library’s Rodriguez Annex ,134 S.E. E St., in Madras.

A newly added baby-toddler-preschooler Summer Reading Program will also kick off on June 25 from 10:10-11 a.m. in the Rodriguez Annex.

This year’s Summer Reading theme is “Dig into Reading.” All programs are free and children of all ages are welcome to attend either the morning or the afternoon sessions.

Hour-long programs, geared toward school-age children, will be held every Tuesday from 2-3 p.m., from June 25 to July 16, at the Rodriguez Annex.

They will include games, craft activities, and special guests, as well as free T-shirts, backpacks, books, and more. The programs will be repeated on Wednesdays at the Warm Springs Early Childhood Education Center, and on Thursdays at the Culver Elementary School Library.

For families with children age 5 and under, we are providing an additional morning Summer Reading Program for little ones. This program will be held Tuesdays at 10:10 a.m. in the Rodriguez Annex, from June 25 to July 16, and will feature stories and activities suited to children ages birth through 5.

Children are encouraged to read books and fill in book-slips about the books they have read, or that have been read to them. Blank book-slips can be picked up at the Jefferson County Library and completed book-slips can be turned in at the book-slip drop box on the front counter of the library.

All of these completed book-slips will go into the grand prize drawing box. The more books you read, the better your chances of winning!

On July 23, the Summer Reading Grand Finale Pizza Party will be held in Madras from 2-3 p.m. in Sahalee Park. There will be face painting, pizza, games, and, of course, the grand prize drawings.
