The garden of Madras resident Doris Schledewitz will be on the tour.Six private gardens are being featured in the Madas Garden Club Tour, on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2-3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Madras and Culver area.

Individual garden owners will be available to share their unique garden features at the six sites, including information on the rich diversity of plants, maintenance tips and experiences gardening in the micro climates of Culver and Madras.

Proceeds from the tour will help fund the renovation of the demonstration garden at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, and maintenance of the memorial rose garden at the fairgrounds.

The garden plan design will be on display at the Madras Garden Depot and at the flower show exhibit hall at the fair.

Madras Garden Club members gardens featured on the tour include: the Neider garden on the Deschutes River, just north of Madras; four gardens in Madras (Alice Satterlee, Doris Schledewitz, Barbra wergin and Katy Meredity); and the Clark garden south of Culver.

Highlights of the tour include: water features and fish ponds, xeriscaping, micro climate grdening, edible landscaping, butterfly gardens, wildlife-friendly gardens, fruit trees and berries, a cactus garden, a lavender farm, and a conifer garden.

The tour cost is $15 per ticket ($10 if purchased by July 31), free for seniors ate 75 or older, and free for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult. The $10 ticket price is also being honored for other garden club members.
