Harvest Moon pub to open in Culver

The Madras Pub owneres will soon open a pub and grill in Culver.Madras Pub and Deli owners Jeffrey and Anya Brown are expanding their operation with a new restaurant and bar in Culver, which will open in mid-December.

The Browns purchased the building that previously housed the Bad Monkey Pub, which closed two years ago and are currently in the process of remodeling it.

“Nothing is changing with the Madras Pub restaurant,” noted Jeff Brown, who opened that business eight years ago.

While he works in Madras, his wife Anya Brown will manage the new Harvest Moon American Grill and Spirits, at 319 First St. in Culver.

For the past seven years, after earning a business degree from Oregon State University, Anya Brown has been working as an internal auditor for Bank of the Cascades. She resigned that job to manage their new venture.

“We’re remodeling now and have taken walls out and opened the place up. We’ve doubled the size of the kitchen, and will have new booth seating. The only thing that’s staying the same is the bar people sit at,” she said.

“We are also putting in a dance floor and stage for live music on Friday and Saturday nights,” she added.

They plan to offer several micro brews, have a growler filling station, and have a Lottery room with video poker, Powerball, Keno, and Megabucks games.

They are still finalizing the menu, but Brown said, “We’ve taken the great food we like at all our favorite restaurants and put in on the menu.” That includes great burgers, and possibly handmade pizza. With the smoker they have purchased, Harvest Moon will offer smoked brisket, tri-tip, ribs, pulled pork, and sandwiches made with those meats.

Brown estimated they will need to hire 15-20 employees to operate the new restaurant and bar, and they are seeking an experienced chef, serving staff and bartenders. She is at the Culver location from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or people can contact her at 541-306-0529 for more information.

“With eight years of experience at the Madras Pub, we’re taking what has worked and expanding,” Brown said of the new venture. – Susan Matheny
