The LINC resource center in Madras is completing its second year of operation.

LINC (which stands for Love In the Name of Christ) is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., across the street from the Rodriquez Annex, at 278 S.E. Eighth St.

The office is staffed by volunteers from many local churches. The purpose is to help clients connect with the services which are already available in the community.

Often clients are new to the area. Or, some may have hit a particularly "rough patch" and staff can connect them with services around town.

LINC has ministries with people who assist with home essentials, items which cannot be purchased with food stamps.

It operates a job/career clothes closet for folks going to job interviews. Another volunteer works with clients who need to set up a budget, while another helps with writing resumes and job applications.

The Linen and Things ministry helps with bedding, linens, and towel items, and the Kitchen Set-Up ministry has dishes, pots and pans and kitchen utensils.

Several churches offer food bags and boxes, or community meals and summer gardens. Another ministry is being set up for folks to donate firewood for needy families.

LINC works alongside many agencies in the community and can assist in helping clients make connections.

Donations of money or items are always needed for LINC to pass along to its clients.
