MHS students meet author Sherman Alexie

MHS students met author Sherman Alexie and received free books. Some 45 students and seven chaperons were part of a Madras High School group attending the Jan. 24, “Author, Author” program in Bend, featuring nationally-known author Sherman Alexie.

Tickets to the event were donated by the Deschutes County Public Library Foundation. One hundred tickets were available, 58 students signed up, and 45 actually attended. The students also received free Alexie books at the event.

“We were the only school group there, and the students represented MHS very well,” said MHS yearbook instructor Jessica Swagger.

“Afterward, there was a book signing and Alexie was very accommodating with the students. He let them take “selfies” with him and posed for all kinds of pictures. We also got a group photo at the end,” Swagger said.
