Donations allow veterans' families to choose gifts to wrap up for their children.

"The community really pulled together to help make this happen," said Laura Moore, veterans service officer.

Donations included: toys from BestCare and Alpha Omicron; wrapping paper from BestCare; food from a surviving spouse of a veteran, who emptied out her freezer full of rainbow trout, salmon, and chicken; transportation and delivery of toys from Ron Cummings, Tamara Coffee, Chris Goelze, Terry Loomis, and Jim Shanks.

Also, handmade Hats from Tina Deamon; sorting and distribution of toys by Judith Bowden, Rose Canga, Tamara Coffee, Christa Cox, Ron Cummings, Tina Deamon, Denise Keeton, Patricia Malone, Alicia and Jim Shanks, and Darlene Strupith; and gift wrapping by Mayzie Nilles and Julia Williams.

The remaining toys were given to the Culver Sharing Tree, the Department of Human Services, Deer Ridge Correctional Institution, several local churches and the Warm Springs VFW.

"More than 1,800 toys have been distributed throughout Jefferson County to families in need," Moore said.
