Officers will be conducting a campaign on seatbelt, cell phone, and traffic safety.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is joining the State of Oregon in the 2017 high visibility enforcement campaign dedicated to seatbelt, cell phone, and traffic safety.

The campaign began Jan. 7, and runs through Jan. 18. Deputies will provide regular and overtime traffic enforcement to reduce the number of seatbelt- and cell phone- related traffic incidents during that time.

"Please familiarize yourselves with the new seatbelt (House Bill 3044 Chapter 177) and cell phone laws, (House Bill 2597), and the increased fines for cell phone driving," said patrol deputy Ronald Larson.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office participated in the 2017 Christmas intoxicated driving blitz and traffic safety enforcement.

The blitz was from Dec. 13 through Jan. 1. During the blitz, the deputies participated in 31 hours of traffic safety enforcement, during which they conducted 36 traffic stops, and issued 45 warnings and 19 citations.
