Spray Rodeo takes Memorial Day Weekend again
Half marathon also taking place
The 66th annual Spray Rodeo, along with the 48th Eastern Oregon Half Marathon, will once again provide Memorial Day Weekend fun and excitement for the region, beginning May 24, in Spray.
The rodeo's slack competition will kick off the action at 11 a.m., with main performances May 25 and May 26 beginning at 1 p.m.
B-Bar-D Rodeo will be providing the stock for the rodeo, and Northwest Professional Rodeo Association 2012 announcer of the year Scott Allen will call the action. JJ Harrison, the NPRA 2012 contract act of the year, will provide entertainment.
The half marathon, a 13.2-mile run from Service Creek to Spray, will start at 8 a.m. May 25. It will be the last for race directors, Dick and Jannie Allen of Ione, as they will be retiring after this year. They, along with Lyle Rilling, will be grand marshals of the parade.
The rodeo parade, led by Queen Susie Baird, will begin at 11 a.m., May 25.
Live music by the Shaniko Band, with Todd Asher, will fill the Spray High School gymnasium at 8 p.m. after the rodeo Saturday, and the "Buckeroo Breakfast" will be served until 11 a.m. both days.
Saturday is "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" Day, so everyone is encouraged to wear something pink, in support of breast cancer research. All the proceeds of that event will be donated to St. Charles Medical Center.
A cowboy church will be held at 9 a.m., May 26 in the rodeo grounds grandstands, followed by the final performance.
