Not even the weather will keep it from happening this time.

Originally scheduled to be Dec. 7, but postponed due to inclement weather, the gym dedication at Madras High School will now take place Saturday, between the girls and boys varsity basketball games against Henley.

Madras High School Athletic Director Rory Oster said the ceremony will take place around 5 p.m., and will honor all of the past MHS basketball coaches.

The Buffalo Dome looks like an entirely different place since last season. With the new paint job on the floor, featuring the new MHS logos, and the new wireless scoreboards with player trackers, fans know how many points and fouls every player on the floor has at a given moment.

There have also been two sets of banners installed on each side of the gymnasium, one that celebrates the state championships the White Buffalos have won, and another set with all the district championships claimed by the Buffs.

Oster said Central Oregon Seed Inc. has been one of the main sponsors of the gym project, and he wanted to work with them to come up with something special for the gym. The folks at COSI suggested dedicating the gym to prior MHS hoops coaches for all their hard word putting the Buffs on the map when it comes to high school basketball.

“Since COSI has given so much to our program, I wanted to get them involved,” Oster said. “This is just a way we can honor the people that helped Madras High School.”

The girls game will start at 3:30 p.m., with the gym dedication ceremony taking place around 5 p.m., Oster said. The boys varsity game will follow.

The games will be the tail end of a back-to-back for both the boys and girls teams. The boys are set to host Cottage Grove at 7 p.m. Friday, and the girls will travel to Cottage Grove.
