The Class 4A state wrestling tournament did not go the White Buffalos' way this year.

With just three participants in the meet held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Madras saw its season come to a quick end during the meet's first day and left Portland having scored just one team point.

Senior Ian Oppenlander went 1-2 Friday, earning Madras' lone win in the first round of the 106-pound consolation bracket.

Oppenlander opened the tournament with an 8-1 loss to Braxton Sue of Scappoose, but rebounded to defeat Junction City's Joel Martinez 9-4. Oppenlander was pinned by Michael Bresser in his third match, ending his tournament.

Junior Jarred Dupont, competing in the 126-pound division, lost his opening match to Taylor Walden of Scappoose and followed that up with a consolation loss to Cedrus King of Phoenix.

In the 145-pound weight class, Madras junior Trevor Parsons dropped his opening match against second-seeded Darin French and then fell to Sutherlin's Lucas Erickson by a single point to end his year.
