Former Buff coach Evan Brown coming back home

It didn’t take long for Madras to find its guy.

Just three weeks after Rory Oster resigned as the Jefferson County Independent School District athletic director, the position has been filled. And the name is a familiar one.

Former Madras boys basketball coach Evan Brown has been tapped as the district’s new AD, and will be in place later this summer, ready to oversee the 2014-15 sports season.

Evan Brown“I’m always on the lookout for another challenge,” Brown said. “This job came open and I felt like it was a great fit. I am really excited about the opportunity.”

Brown takes over for Oster, who resigned to take the AD job in Camas, Wash. Oster said he would hang around if needed until the position was filled, but was not part of the hiring process.

But he said Madras scored big with the hiring of Brown.

“They hired a great one,”?Oster said.

Brown, who taught and coached at Madras from 1992-2008, has been the athletic director at Stayton High for the last three years. Before that, he was the AD at Cascade High from 2008-2011.

Brown said coming back to Madras was an easy choice.

“We had such a really good friendship and strong bonds with the people there,”?Brown said. “It’s a strong community.”

Brown said he would try to be in Madras by the end of July and then will be able to get a better grasp of the Madras sports scene.

There is one important piece of business to attend to after a much needed family vacation in Mexico, he said.

“I?know that my wife would love to have her old house back,”?Brown said.
