Mac Dash this weekend

Mini Dash loads of fun to get out and see

Photo Credit: PIONEER FILE PHOTO - The MAC Dash triathlon has become a bigger event with each year as participation has consistently grown. For the seventh time, athletes from around the region will descend on Madras for the MAC Dash Fall Triathlon.

The Dash, which begins and ends at the Madras Aquatic Center, is slated for a 7:30 a.m. start Saturday. The Mini Dash, an event for kids, will follow.

The volunteer-organized event benefits MAC youth programs.

The MAC Dash sprint triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim in the MAC swimming pool, a 12-mile road bike ride and a three-mile run. Both individual and team competitors are welcome.

The bike course will follow a 12-mile path in southeast Madras and return to the MAC. The run course moves out to Juniper Hills Park and concludes on the track at Jefferson County Middle School.

Registration for the dash closed on Aug. 31 and there is no race day registration.

Still, the events brings out plenty of spectators, especially the Mini Dash, which will start at 11:30 a.m. The Mini Dash is open to kids 10 years of age and younger and stresses participation, not competition.

Watching the little ones compete in the three events is a blast, and may be more fun for the parents to watch than for the kids to participate in.
