Seven Bulldogs land on Columbia Basin Conference all-league team; five filled multiple positions.

WILL DENNER/MADRAS PIONEER - Culver junior running back Victor Torres (5) ran for nine touchdowns and 965 yards on 162 attempts, good enough for an average of six yards per carry. He added 169 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Despite a winless record, the 2017 Culver football season was far from a loss.

Several players came up big for the Bulldogs throughout the season, and their accomplishments were reflected in the Columbia Basin Conference all-league team.

Included in those selections were Victor Torres, Cole Little, Weston Basl, Joe Russo and Jorge Olivera all landing on the first team at various positions. Jerron Rhen was named to the second team as both an offensive and defensive lineman, while Jonathan Figueroa was named an honorable mention offensive lineman.

In addition to Rhen, Little (offensive and defensive line), Basl (wide receiver and defensive back), Olivera (quarterback, defensive back, kicker and punter) and Joe Russo (wide receiver and linebacker) made the all-league team on both offense and defense.

For a team tasked with replacing a dynamic running back last year in Jaiden Jones, Torres took on the role as the Bulldogs' featured back and owned it.

He ran for nine touchdowns and 965 yards on 162 attempts, good enough for an average of six yards per carry. He added 169 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Russo was selected to the first team as both a receiver and linebacker. On offense, Russo led Culver in receiving with 17 receptions for 305 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 43 tackles, tied for second most on the team, and also had three tackles for loss.

Like Russo, Basl made the CBC first team on both offense and defense. He chipped in 16 receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a whopping seven interceptions.

In addition to making the first team as both a kicker and punter, Olivera was named to the second team as a defensive back and honorable mention as quarterback.

He passed for 855 yards and seven touchdowns, also adding 178 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

WILL DENNER/MADRAS PIONEER - Culver senior Cole Little (75) made the all-league first team as both an offensive and defensive lineman. He led the team in tackles (50) and sacks (five). In addition to his leadership on the offensive line, Little was a force on the Bulldogs' defensive line, as he racked up 50 tackles and five sacks. Both figures led the team.

Likewise, Rhen totaled 30 tackles and three sacks as a defender, in addition to his contributions on the offensive front.

Figueroa earned recognition as an offensive lineman, after playing a part in Culver rushing for 1,181 total yards as a team, while also providing pass blocking for Olivera.

Conference champion Heppner led the way with 11 players filling 18 spots, while Stanfield had 12 players filling 18 spots, and Weston-McEwen had 10 players filling a total of 14 spots.
