School food pantry seeking donations

The Silver School food pantry at Newberg High School is seeking donations. Throughout the year, the school keeps a supply on hand to make sure that no student goes hungry. Favorite items include fresh fruit, Cup O’ Noodles, and any kind of granola or energy bar. Donations may be dropped off with Karyn Puckett at the Silver School office. St. Paul bazaar set

St. Paul Elementary School will host a holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23. A limited supply of vendor tables are available for $25. For more information, call the school office at 503-633-2691 and ask for Star.

Excited about science?

The Chehalem Park and Recreation District is still registering students ages 5 to 12 for its six-week Mad Science “Meet Me in the Lab” after-school enrichment program, which got underway this week at three local elementary schools. Participants will explore the worlds of chemistry and physics through hands-on learning with student-safe lab equipment. Classes run weekly from 3:40 to 4:40 p.m. Dundee Elementary School sessions will be held on Mondays through Nov. 18, with no class Nov. 11. Sessions at Ewing Young will run on Tuesdays through Nov. 12 and Joan Austin will host on Wednesdays through Nov. 13. Immunization clinic set

Yamhill County Public Health will host an immunization clinic from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Edwards Elementary School cafeteria. School requirements include two Hepatitis A shots for kindergarten students, a Tdap booster (pertussis) for 7th grade students if no DaTP immunization has been given in the past five years, and two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine by the 2014-2015 school year for students currently in grades five through 10. A parent or guardian must accompany students under the age of 15, who should also bring their most up-to-date immunization record and an insurance card for those covered by insurance. Each immunization is $22, but payment arrangements will be made and no student will be turned away for inability to pay. For more information, call Annie Berger at 503-554-5363.
