Highway safety — Departments join forces with Oregon Impact to target impaired drivers during the holidays, promote driver education

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department will increase patrols Saturday through Dec. 1 looking for impaired drivers. Patrols were also increased Nov. 22-23. The NDPD was awarded a grant through Oregon Impact to seek and arrest impaired drivers during the holiday season.

In addition to the increased patrols, Oregon Impact joined forces with NDPD to focus on education to keep drivers safe.

“Designate a driver in your party who will not consume intoxicants. If you prefer otherwise, be sure you have enough funds to pay for a taxi ride home or pre-arrange a ride home with a friend or family member,” said an NDPD press release. “Think before your drink. The decision you make today can have long-lasting and painful effects on you, your family, friends and co-workers as well as those who may have the unfortunate circumstance of becoming a victim because of one’s poor choice.”
