Newberg government — Recruitment subcommittee to present proposal at City Council Dec. 16 meeting, applications would be due Jan. 27

A proposed timeline and position information to begin recruitment for a city manager was established during the City Council Manager Recruitment Subcommittee’s Dec. 4 meeting.

Norma Alley, city recorder, said the essentials of the recommendations by the subcommittee remain the same, with a few edits.

The biggest change was establishing a hiring range.

“The subcommittee will recommend to the council at the Dec. 16 meeting a hiring range of $110,000 to $130,000,” Alley said. “It’s the same as before.”

Former city manager Dan Danicic, who resigned in the summer after it was revealed he had an affair with a subordinate, had a salary of $123,624. Alley said where the next manager’s salary lies within the hiring range will depend on experience.

Recruitment will be conducted by the League of Oregon Cities. Although the City Council has the ultimate decision to approve the proposed timeline and candidate profile, the LOC would start placing ads Dec. 16, and hope to begin screening ads mid-February with interviews completed mid-April.
