Police arrest Newberg resident Andrew Errand after an incident on First Street

Newberg-Dundee Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired early Friday morning at 111 E. First St., after responding to a separate incident earlier the previous evening at an adjacent property.

During the earlier incident, officers responded to a trespassing incident at 110 S. Main St. at which officers cited Lester Ball for trespassing and urinating in public.Errand

“An officer sitting in the area heard a single gunshot fired (at about 1 a.m.). Moments later the officer observed Ball running toward him reporting that the person living at the residence had pointed a gun at him and fired it,” according to a press release. “The officer radioed for assistance and within moments observed Andrew Errand, (21), standing in the driveway of the residence. As cover officers arrived Errand was taken into custody at gunpoint and the involved weapon was recovered from a garage area.”

Upon further investigation officers learned that Ball and Errand were arguing about the earlier incident when Errand pointed the firearm at Ball.

“Ball thought it was a paint ball gun until Errand removed the lid of a nearby garbage can and fired the weapon into it,” the release said.

No injuries were reported.

Errand was transported to the county jail on charges of menacing, disorderly conduct, recklessly endangering another person and unlawful use of a weapon. Bail was set at $20,000.
