New doggie daycare facility opens in Newberg near airport and industrial park

Welcoming a pack of furry customers, a husband and wife team have gone into business together to bring a new doggie daycare and boarding house to Newberg.

Richard and Merissa Atwood launched Pawsitively Playful in October. They said they are excited about the new venture and to bring into the community a diverse kind of doggie daycare option.

"This is not a business, this is our lifestyle and dogs are our life," the couple said on the business' website. "Our dogs bring us comfort, joy and companionship through every phase of our lives, and it's our job to give back to them as much as they give to us." GARY ALLEN - Richard and Merissa Atwood launched Pawsitively Playful in October, a new doggie daycare and boarding house in Newberg.

Pawsitively Playful offers daycare and boarding services for dogs, with supervised indoor playing areas and 24-hour monitoring.

"Boarding includes daycare so they are not stuck in a kennel all the time. They can play all day long," Richard Atwood said. "A full day of play is included at no additional charge and around 6 to 7 at night we get them ready for nighttime.

"We have two play areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. We can put 10 large dogs and 10 small dogs in the areas at a time and they still have room to play!"

"The area for big dogs has a couch and love seat and the area for little dogs has a recliner. So they can lay around and relax if they want to. The whole point is to make it as close to the home environment as possible."

The couple cares about the health and wellbeing of the animals and they serenade the dogs with music or entertain them with videos to help relax the boarding guests while they are away from home.

"For the entire building we installed a rolled rubber flooring; its warm, with traction and water proof" Richard Atwood said, "It's to keep them from slipping on concrete, or unnecessarily add stress on the joints."

He added that business is going well. "We've been open for five weeks and already had 34 dogs," he said. "Some clients come two to three days a week or four to five days a week. We have a groomer on site and she is a great groomer too!"

The business is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
