Curbside glass recyling coming
The city of Newberg has announced it will implement a curbside glass recycling option in April.
Waste Management will deliver recycling carts to homes by the end of March for depositing glass only. There is no charge for the first month of the recycling service, officials explained. However after that, the cost will be charged at a monthly cost that varies upon how many of the town's residents use the service. If all residents participate the cost is $2.88 per customer per month. If more than 50 percent of customers participate in the program, the cost is $3.64 per month, and if less than 50 percent use the service the cost is $5.22 per month.
The glass recycling charges will go into effect May 1.
Waste Management customers can choose to opt out but must do so by Friday in order to not receive the new recycling cart. To opt out, call 1-800-808-5901.
The cart will be three feet by two feet and is only to be used for glass items. All colors of glass bottles are accepted. However, items such as light bulbs, window glass, mirrors and ceramics are not accepted. Waste Management trucks will pick up the glass every other week.
