Work continues on new Chehalem Aquatic Center, grand opening date set for 3 p.m. June 7

The first phase of the project consists of constructing the new facilty, while the second phase will involve renovation of the current facility near the corner of Hayworth Avenue and Villa Road.Construction on the new facility is schedule to conclude by mid-May, with a grand opening set for 3 p.m. June 7. The new facility includes new dressing rooms, showers, saunas, a hot tub, lazy river, vortex, kiddie area, deep water tank and lap lanes, with a separate area that holds a 25-yard competition pool with eight lanes and a movable bulkhead. The project began in March 2015, ground was broke in October 2016 and the pools were first filled for testing in March.

Meet the candidates for circuit court judge

McMINNVILLE -- The Yamhill County branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will hold a candidate's forum from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Carnegie Room at the public library, 225 N.W. Adams St.

The five candidates for District 25, Position 2 judge of the Yamhill County Circuit Court – Jennifer Chapman, Carol Fredrick, J. Mark Lawrence, Mark Pihl and Lisl Miller – will share their backgrounds, judicial philosophies, thoughts on mandatory minimum sentencing, three strikes, mental health court and offender accountability through punishment, treatment and diversion.

Historical society hosts talk on photo and

document preservation

MLK commemoration slated at university

A service of commemoration and commitment recognizing the 50-year anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. today (April 4) at the centennial tower at George Fox University.

Inspired by the #rally2endracism.org initiative of the National Council of Churches, the event will include a brief program, including a responsive reading, a moment of silence and reference to the National Council of Churches campaign to A.C.T. (awaken, confront, transform).

Yamhill Community Care Organization's Early Learning Hub is accepting applications for its Children's Hero volunteer award, which recognizes community members who are committed to serving and keeping children safe and secure in Yamhill County through advocacy, volunteerism and/or resource sharing.
