Thanks and keep supporting the Newberg ReStore

To the editor:

As I leave management responsibility at the Newberg Habitat ReStore, a few comments seem in order.

First, thanks to Habitat for Humanity for the opportunity of giving leadership to the launching of the Habitat ReStore. It’s been a hoot!

Second, thanks to the incredible team of volunteers who “birthed” the dream before I joined them.

They have been wonderful, second to none, even willing to work in an unheated metal building during the damp Oregon winter. The ReStore would not have happened without them!

Third, thanks to our community for supporting this endeavor. You have donated good quality furniture, appliances and building materials for the ReStore to sell. You have come down to the cold (or hot) ReStore to shop and buy-buy-buy. Thanks!Jan. 29 letters to the editor

What you don’t know is that you have made the Newberg ReStore quite special. While it is among the smaller stores in Oregon and one of only a handful without heating or air conditioning, it ranked as the No. 1 ReStore in Oregon in two important measures. It was No. 1 in sales per square feet per day — by a significant margin. We were busier than all the other stores. And it was No. 1 in net profit (at 61 percent) in the entire state!

There were only three other stores over 40 percent, so it turned a much higher percentage of sales into funding home construction than other stores.

So, next time you visit, congratulate the staff on their great work — and ask how you can join their team of volunteers.
