Ministry — Charitable organizations relational ministry program offers spiritual and emotional support while helping clients learn valuable skills

The relational ministry is one of the core programs at Love INC (In the Name of Christ) Newberg, which is in need of mentors to help individuals and families set goals, learn skills and engage both church and community resources.

Love INC is looking for local church members with real and active relationships with Jesus Christ who demonstrate compassion, love, acceptance, creativity, reliability and good listening skills.

Training is provided for mentors by Love INC, which then links them with people in need on a long-term basis, including classes and one-on-one mentoring to help those who are stuck in the cycle of poverty.

The relational ministry is hosted at Newberg Friends Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, where mentors help individuals take positive steps toward increased self-sufficiency and teach and encourage problem-solving skills while offering spiritual and emotional support, developing ongoing relationships and growing as Christians. A typical Thursday begins with 45 minutes of classes and 45 minutes of mentor time.

Love INC is also calling for volunteers to host at the shelter and to make deliveries and pickups for its clearinghouse.

On Aug. 17, Love INC will hold a backpack giveaway at 9 a.m. at Godsong Community Church. Free backpacks and school supplies will be handed out to those with vouchers, which can be obtained by calling 503-537-3999.

Several of Love INC’s many ministries have specific needs this month, including the diaper ministry at Joyful Servant Lutheran Church, which is asking for donations of size 4 and 5 diapers, as well as baby wipes.

The Children’s Clothes Closet at Newberg Church of Christ is calling for back-to-school clothes, especially coats, while the Linen Closet at St. Peter Catholic Church needs towels, pillows and sheets of all sizes.

The kitchen set-up ministry at 2nd Street Community Church could use donations of new or gently used pots and pans, while Family Life Church’s Shear Joy Haircuts is seeking a hair stylist to volunteer time once a month.
