Oregon Poet Laureate position open for nominations

The nomination period for the Oregon Poet Laureate is open until Feb. 28. This is a two-year renewable appointment for a position that “fosters the art of poetry, encourages literacy and learning, addresses central issues relating to humanities and heritage, and reflects on public life in Oregon,” according to a press release. Nominations must include a cover letter describing the poet, a 300-word biography of the poet and a statement indicating why the poet’s work is representative of Oregon. Send nominations to o.hm@ oregonhumanities.org. For more information, visit www.culturaltrust.org/poet laureatenomination.html.

‘Treasures of the Heartland’ rescheduled due to weather

The event features a gourmet dinner, music and photo opportunities with historical modes of transportation. The event also features a silent and oral auction and benefits “Gathering Places” in Amity and Dayton — a project aiming to create artistic and functional information kiosks.
