Oregon Poet Laureate position open for nominations
The nomination period for the Oregon Poet Laureate is open until Feb. 28. This is a two-year renewable appointment for a position that fosters the art of poetry, encourages literacy and learning, addresses central issues relating to humanities and heritage, and reflects on public life in Oregon, according to a press release. Nominations must include a cover letter describing the poet, a 300-word biography of the poet and a statement indicating why the poets work is representative of Oregon. Treasures of the Heartland rescheduled due to weather
The Treasures of the Heartland event has been rescheduled to Feb. 23 due to the recent inclement weather. Tickets are $125 and there are still some available. The event features a gourmet dinner, music and photo opportunities with historical modes of transportation. The event also features a silent and oral auction and benefits Gathering Places in Amity and Dayton a project aiming to create artistic and functional information kiosks.
